Position Overview

This position performs manual work to support construction and property maintenance activities.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
  • Clean and prepare working area
  • Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
  • Measure, cut, shape, assemble, place and join studs, material made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
  • Install metal stud framing
  • Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
  • Fit and install trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
  • Supervise apprentices and other construction workers
  • May prepare cost estimates for clients
  • Use all equipment effectively, economically, safely, and for its intended use
  • Improve job quality by identifying and suggesting improvements
  • Assist with the maintenance of equipment
  • Notify Supervisor of any equipment deficiencies
  • Follow all safety procedures
  • Keep work are clean
  • Other duties as required

Qualifications:

  • Four years’ experience minimum as a Steel Stud Framer
  • Experience using laser levels
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
  • Knowledge of general construction methods and practices
  • Mechanically inclined, familiarity with hand tools and construction equipment.
  • Solid organization and problem solving skills.
  • First aid, fall arrest and WHMIS certifications an asset
