Position Overview
This position performs manual work to support construction and property maintenance activities.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and sketches to determine specifications and calculate requirements
- Clean and prepare working area
- Prepare layouts in conformance to building codes, using measuring tools
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, place and join studs, material made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
- Install metal stud framing
- Build foundations, install floor beams, lay subflooring and erect walls and roof systems
- Fit and install trim items such as doors, stairs, moulding and hardware
- Supervise apprentices and other construction workers
- May prepare cost estimates for clients
- Use all equipment effectively, economically, safely, and for its intended use
- Improve job quality by identifying and suggesting improvements
- Assist with the maintenance of equipment
- Notify Supervisor of any equipment deficiencies
- Follow all safety procedures
- Keep work are clean
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Four years’ experience minimum as a Steel Stud Framer
- Experience using laser levels
- High School Diploma or equivalent is desirable.
- Knowledge of general construction methods and practices
- Mechanically inclined, familiarity with hand tools and construction equipment.
- Solid organization and problem solving skills.
- First aid, fall arrest and WHMIS certifications an asset
